As a referral clinic, it is vital that we have a referral from your usual GP vet before we can arrange an appointment with you.

We are a referral clinic, which means that your regular vet has to refer your animal to our clinic in order to be able to process your information and arrange your appointment.

You can always start the process by submitting an appointment request . After that, you will need to contact your general vets and ask them to send us your pets’ history and clinical information to process the referral. 

Our clinic is in Yaxley, Peterborough. The full address is: 16 Trent Way, Enterprise Park, Yaxley, Peterborough, PE7 7AT.

As Enterprise Park is a new trade park, not all sat-navs are up to date, therefore we recommend Google Maps to locate us.

Your first appointment with one of our ophthalmologists will last up to 40 minutes.

Specialist

A Specialist is a veterinary surgeon who has achieved the highest recognised level of expertise in their field. This title is awarded by accredited bodies such as:

• The European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO)
• The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO)
• The Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS)
• The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)

To become a Specialist, a veterinary surgeon must complete a three-year residency training programme under the supervision of one or more recognised specialists. Upon completion of the programme, the candidate must pass a rigorous set of examinations to attain Specialist status.

• In the ECVO and ACVO, successful candidates become Diplomates and receive the title DipECVO or DipACVO.
• In the ANZCVS, they become Fellows and are awarded the title FANZCVS (Ophthalmology).

Resident

A Resident is a veterinary surgeon currently undergoing specialist training in veterinary ophthalmology. They have been accepted by a recognised college (ECVO, ACVO or ANZCVS) to complete a residency programme that prepares them for specialist qualification. After completing their training, residents are eligible to sit the specialist examinations.

Certificate Holder / Advanced Practitioner

A Certificate Holder or Advanced Practitioner is a general practice veterinary surgeon who has completed additional postgraduate training and achieved certification in a particular field, such as ophthalmology. This training usually takes one to three years and demonstrates a strong interest and deeper understanding of their chosen area. While not specialists, they have advanced knowledge and skills beyond the standard veterinary curriculum.

Full payment is required either at conclusion of the consultation, or at the time of discharge of your animal.

We accept both cash and card payments (including American Express), although card payment is preferred. 

If you wish to pay by BACS we will request evidence of payment.

Most insurance will cover the cost of your treatment at Vet Eye Care, subject to the policy terms and conditions, and whether you have any exclusions in place. Our friendly reception team are very happy to help advise of the options when it comes to claiming on your insurance and they will swiftly process claims leaving you one less thing to worry about! If you have any questions about insurance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We collaborate with your insurance to ensure that we will help you in the best possible way to process your claim. Upon request, we can organise a direct claim* with your insurance company (a non-refundable administration fee of £30 applies in this case).

If we are not part of your insurers preferred referral veterinary practice (RSA) and your pet requires to undergo a surgical procedure at our clinic, we commit to cover the additional fees associated with that to help you make the referral process easier and stress free.

*Please bear in mind that if you are attending an emergency appointment, the direct claim might not be able to be organised in a timely manner

If the case is an emergency, we recommend that your primary vet clinic calls us directly on 01733 304364. We will do our best to arrange an appointment for emergencies (either within, or out of hours) as quickly as possible.

If you are registered with us and your pet has undergone recent treatment at our vet clinic, please refer to the discharge note provided at the time of the appointment where you can find our emergency mobile number and contact us outside working hours. 

We will obtain your pet’s medical history from the referring vet practice prior to your appointment with us.

We treat a variety of eye conditions and diseases, include ocular trauma, eye lid defects, ulcers, dry eye, cherry eye, cataracts, and many more eye related conditions.

When we book your pet in for surgery, we will send you a pre-operative email, containing all the information you will need. 

However, for healthy, adult dogs on the day of surgery, we recommend bringing your pet in on an empty stomach. Sometimes this advice varies between patients, for example if your pet is young, or diabetic, so always seek advice from a member of our team if you are unsure.

We are a referral clinic, which means we can only book a consultation for your pet once we have received a referral from your primary vet practice. The referral process provides us with all the relevant information we need, including your contact details, your pet’s details, and most importantly, your pet’s medical history. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to review your pet without a referral form from your primary vet.

The referral process is simple. Your vet can refer you to us through our website form, by email, or over the phone. Once we receive the referral and your details, we will contact you promptly to arrange an appointment. During our usual working hours, you can expect to hear from us within an hour. If we receive the referral outside of our opening hours, we will be in touch on the next working day.

Vet Eye Care is located in Yaxley, with excellent road links and the A1 close by. We recommend using What3Words or Google Maps to help you find us. If you are travelling by train, Peterborough station is well connected, and it takes around 15 minutes by taxi to reach our clinic.
